Mike Cotterell

Mike was appointed as our Vicar in August 1998, having previously served in the Dioceses of Bath and Wells, Derby and Leicester.


He married Barbara and was ordained in 1984; they have 4 children born between 1986 and 1998. He trained for the ministry at Oak Hill College, prior to this he worked as a building project supervisor on a youth unemployment scheme. Before that he was a Telly Repair man.


Mike is an experienced parish priest with particular gifts in the area of pastoral care, helping people to be released from hurts from their past. He enjoys teaching and preaching, he is gifted in healing and deliverance ministry. He has an enabling and encouraging leadership style and appreciates the contribution of all church members. During his time at St Pauls he has used his visionary skills to help us develop the life of the church family and develop plans for the building to meet our needs.


Mike is very supportive of our ethnic outreach, encouraging integration of ethnic minorities into main stream church life. People from many different backgrounds appreciate Mike's pastoral care and support. He has recently been involved in SOMA and Rooted in Jesus missions in several Dioceses in Africa. These have been concerned with encouraging the use of Healing Ministry and in Training small group leaders for Discipleship groups.


Mike's hobbies involve practical skills particularly in woodworking, wood turning and misc minor engineering projects. His is the proud owner of several lathes. He enjoys reading history, walking and cycling.


His wife, Barbara, is a teacher and artist. Recently she has been involved with different groups of artist exhibiting their artwork in the community. She works for the SEEDS Trust on a part time basis teaching recycling, caring for the environment in local primary schools through the construction and cultivation of Keyhole gardens. She is a keen gardener.
